Letters Inclusive growth In the article “Mechanisms for inclusive growth” (Business line, May 31), the author feels that six decades of planning exercises have not been able to make any serious dent on the issue of poverty reduction and has, therefore, suggested public-private partnership for improving the mechanism for poverty eradication. The planners have always been stressing the importance of financial inclusion as a concept to remove poverty. This alone will not help as upliftment of the poor needs inclusive growth which means a successful vocation for the account holder. Whenever a beneficiary has utilised the system and his skills to carve out a living for him/herself, he has come out of the poverty syndrome successfully. Whenever he/she has seen financial inclusion only as an opportunity to make a momentary financial gain without seriously devoting to the cause for which he was extended the loan/subsidy, the exercise has resulted in failure. The private-public model should take into this account and help in promoting successful vocations to reap the rewards of financial inclusion,. P. E. Muthu, Mumbai More Stories on : Letters | Economy
