Spot rubber stays steady

Aravindan

Kottayam, June 3 Rubber ruled almost steady on Tuesday.

A recovery in Japanese rubber futures rescued the domestic prices from further declines though major consuming industries were totally inactive during the session.

RSS 4 closed unchanged at Rs 124 a kg on buyer resistance probably following a weak closing of RSS 3 (spot) at Rs 131.22 (Rs 132.53) a kg at Bangkok.

The volumes continued to be narrow.

“We expect the market to remain range bound in tune with the international indices and the chances for another sharp and immediate decline from these levels are quite remote as the production and arrivals are extremely dull” an observer said.

Meanwhile according to informed circles, certain tyre companies bought sheet rubber up to Rs 125.00 a kg on Monday.

In futures, RSS 3 bounced back at its June contract to ¥316.6 (Rs 129.40) from ¥311, July to ¥318 (312), August to ¥320 (312.7), September to ¥320.3 (312.3), October to ¥320.3 (312.2) and November to ¥321.6 (314.8) a kg at TOCOM.

Spot prices were (Rs/kg): RSS-4: 124 (124); RSS-5: 119 (119); ungraded: 114 (113.50); ISNR 20: 117 (117) and latex 60 per cent: 82 (82).
