The Minister said that the highest previous monthly income of Rs 80.90 crore was recorded in April this year and the income had gone up by around Rs 5 crore in May. Besides, the income increased by about Rs 7 crore when compared with Rs 77.16 crore posted in May 2007.

He claimed that the substantial improvement in income was the result of the many measures initiated by the corporation to tone up efficiency after this Government assumed office.

The corporation launched 750 new buses into service at low cost and also controlled the expenditure during this period.

He was all praise for the dedication of the employees and management that contributed to the corporation’s achievements. At the same time, the Minister admitted that the corporation’s financial burden in terms of pension payments had increased manifold and added to it was the repayment of loans taken in the past.

In the event, the gap between monthly income and expenditure continued uncovered.
