Opinion - Letters
Tackling inefficiency

In the article “How justified is public expenditure on government schools?” (Business Line, June 3), the author rightly points out that it is the lack of efficiency and quality that is affecting primary education in India. One of the main reasons for indiscipline among teachers, especially in villages, is that most of them do not reside in villages due to certain family constraints.

Ironically, providing quality education for their children is one of the main reasons why they stay in the nearby cities or towns.

The government should come up with innovative policies to counter such problems. It can probably offer some kind of tax incentives to professionals working in these schools.
