Bangalore, June 4 The International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore, has launched a professional certification programme for engineering graduates to enhance their employability.

The programme ‘Yogyata’ will be offered as a blended learning programme that includes a mix of several learning methodologies such as face-to-face classroom lectures, web-based, multimedia enabled and self-learning courseware and self assessments. Programme curriculum includes foundations of IT and algorithms and problem solving using C, business communication and soft skills, object-oriented programming using Java and web programming.

Announcing the programme features at a press conference, Prof Sadagopan, Director, IIIT-B, said that Yogyata has been thought through to include what the IT industry needs from fresh talent. The programme has been designed for students from Tier-II and Tier-III colleges and slow learners, but is scalable, he said.

The curriculum has been designed by Radex Learning, based on inputs from leading IT companies. The first batch to be launched in Bangalore and Hubli would commence classes in September.

IIIT-B has plans to of launching subsequent batches in Coimbatore, Trivandrum and Hyderabad. “We’re expecting 200 students to take up the course in the first batch and this number will go up to 1,000 a batch in two years,” said Mr Prof Sadagopan. The course fee is fixed at Rs 34,500 and duration of the course is four months, “but flexible for slow learners”, Prof Sadagopan said.

Shortage of engineers

About 450,000 engineers graduate every year and about 150,000 get absorbed by the IT sector.
