‘ATF duty cut: Marginal impact on fares’

New Delhi, June 4

The decision to half the import duty on aviation turbine fuel (ATF) is unlikely to have any major impact on the fares or fuel surcharge being levied by domestic airlines. “The impact will be minimal. The real impact will be felt when the States reduce the sales tax on ATF,” said Mr Saroj Dutta, Executive Director, Jet Airways. A spokesperson of Kingfisher Airlines said for the moment the airline was not reducing either the fuel surcharge or fares. The Governmen t on Wednesday reduced the import duty on ATF from 10 per cent to 5 per cent.
