Public-private partnership model to tackle HIV
Our Bureau
Hyderabad, June 5 Andhra Pradesh is planning to have around 1,200 new clinics that would provide facilities to deliver services for the treatment and prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and thereby halt the spread of HIV.
STIs and RTIs (reproductive tract infections) are key targets for the National Aids Control Organisation (NACO) in the efforts to tackle the spread of HIV/AIDS in the country. By strengthening the infrastructure and creating new clinics to address this, the Andhra Pradesh State Aids Control Society wants to intensify its programme to prevent the spread of HIV, according to Mr R.V. Chandravadan, its Project Director.
NACO has been implanting the public-private-partnership model for the STI/RTI service delivery in 100 districts across 18 States.
Population Services International (PSI) has been chosen as the implementing partner for 43 districts in the three high prevalent southern States of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Mr Chandravadan, who was speaking at a three-day regional workshop organised by the PSI with the support of NACO, on Wednesday said training all the implementing partners on the operational guidelines of STI/RTI service delivery was important.
