Our Bureau

Coimbatore, June 5 In its bid to take Ayurveda to global and grass root levels, the Arya Vaidya Pharmacy (Coimbatore) Ltd is planning an international convention between August 22 and 24 at the Codissia Trade Fair Complex here.

The International Grand Centennial Convention on Ayurveda and Ayurveda Health Expo -2008 (IGCC) organised in association with the Tamil Nadu Government, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Department of Ayush marks the culmination of the yearlong birth centenary celebrations of AVP founder Dr P.V. Rama Varier.

Briefing presspersons about this forthcoming event, Dr P.R. Krishnakumar, Chairman, Steering Committee, said the IGCC aims to project Ayurveda as a global tradition in the new millennium.

Researchers and practitioners of modern medicine along with experts in Ayurveda, representatives from Indian and foreign universities are expected to attend the convention.

The deliberations would highlight the benefits of Ayurveda in treating geriatrics, chronic metabolic disorders and nutrition among others.

Stating that the purpose of the convention would not just be a gathering of scholars, IGCC Secretary General Dr Ram Manohar said, “We want concrete things to happen. We are hoping to initiate collaborative research programmes by involving at least one Ayurveda institute and an institute specialising in a relevant area of science at the national /international level.

“We are also exploring the possibility of setting up a national centre through public-private partnership for geriatrics, chronic metabolic disorders and nutrition.”
