‘Citizens want Govt to take responsibility for eco issues’
Delhi participants expressed the most urgency on the part of the Government to contain environmental hazards in comparison with participants from other cities.

New Delhi, June 5 The responsibility for implementing environment friendly measures in the country was squarely put on the shoulders of the Government by respondents who participated in a survey on environment consciousness released on World Environment Day by AbsolutData Research and Analytics.
The survey, based on interviews of 650 respondents, 400 from metros and 150 from the non-metro cities of Chandigarh, Hyderabad and Pune, however, said that spreading awareness about environmental issues was best suited for the NGO sector, though society and corporate companies also cannot shirk responsibility.
Delhi participants expressed the most urgency on the part of the Government to contain environmental hazards in comparison with participants from other cities.
The top six environmental issues identified by more than 60 per cent of the respondents from each of the cities included air pollution, depletion of ozone layer, deforestation and global warming, pollution of rivers and water.
On use of alternate energy, respondents pointed out that solar energy-based equipments was less popular as it was cumbersome to use, and needed higher maintenance. In the case of the energy saving CFL bulbs, higher costs were sighted as the main discouraging factor.
