Chennai, June 5 Duncans Tea Ltd of the Kolkata-based Duncan-Goenka Group announced the launch of super premium brands tea for the southern market.

Addressing the launch here today, Mr M.C. Appaiah, Chief Operating Officer, Duncans Tea, said the launch marks the company’s focus on the southern markets.

This also rounds off the company’s product range by filling the gaps in various market segments. Duncans Tea has a strong presence in mid-premium segment and economy segment.

The company sold over 12,500 tonnes last year. In the super premium segment, it launched Double Diamond Gold made of finest handpicked, high grown orthodox long leaf tea packed to international standards.

The other brand in the segment is the Kings Cup, which would have a strong distinctive flavour of the finest Assam dust tea. Another brand the Diamond Green Tea in bags is made from green tea which is 100 per cent organic and offers a taste of health, Mr Appaiah said.

The No. 1 Premium Leaf Tea launched last October, in the mid-premium segment, has achieved good volumes. This launch was followed by the entry of AAAG in the economy segment targets the loose-tea market.

The company has tied up with oil marketing companies and the railways catering – IRCTC – and the Defence Department canteens to reach a wide market, he said.
