Good general demand in Kochi tea sale

With good general demand for both dust and leaf tea, prices perked up handsomely at the Kochi tea auction.

Interstate buyers were active in bolder CTC dust varieties while exporters operated on medium bolder CTC.

Blenders were fairly active and domestic market operators lent good support.

Both orthodox and CTC varieties found demand from exporters and interstate buyers in the leaf auction.

Dust tea

There were 11,82,000 kg of dust tea on offer. Good liquoring and finer CTC were dearer by Rs 1-2.

Bolder CTC moved up by Rs 2-6.

Medium and high grown orthodox dust remained steady.

Best CTC varieties quoted Rs 62-70, medium CTC was at Rs 55-58 and below medium ranged at Rs 50-53.

High grown BOPD fetched Rs 90-97, medium BOPD quoted Rs 50-54 and secondaries were at Rs 45-50.

Leaf Auction

There were 3,52,000 kg of leaf tea on offer. Orthodox high grown bolder broken were dearer by Rs 2-3, smaller broken were up by Rs 6 while whole leaf grades and fannings remained steady.

Medium orthodox broken and whole leaf grades were up by Rs 3-6 while fannings remained steady.

CTC varieties were up by Rs 3-5 and plainer CTC quoted Rs 1-2 higher.

Best Nilgiri varieties fetched Rs 75-95, medium orthodox was at Rs 65-85 and plain orthodox quoted Rs 58-65.

Best CTC leaf fetched Rs 65-72 while medium CTC leaf quoted Rs 57-64.

Top Prices

Among the dust varieties, Parkside BOPD fetched the top price at Rs 97, followed by Pasuparai SFD at Rs 91, Kodanad BOPD at Rs 90 and Pasuparai FD at Rs 76.

At the leaf auction Chamraj OP and Havukal FOP fetched the top price at Rs 120, followed by Chamraj FOP at Rs 118 and Grahamsland at Rs 110.
