Alliances & Joint Ventures States - Tamil Nadu Finnish major Metso forms venture in India to outsource design services M. Ramesh Chennai, June 6 The $ 9-billion Metso group of Finland, whose major businesses are equipment supplies for paper and pulp, minerals and automation, has formed a joint venture with Chennai-based EPT Engineering Services.The joint venture company, Metso Power India Private Ltd, will provide engineering services to its global business operations. Metso presenceMetso has been in India since 1993 through its wholly owned subsidiary, Metso Minerals India Pvt Ltd. The company has been providing stone crushing machines and has partnered practically every major infrastructure project in India — for example, the upcoming Delhi Airport and the 400 MW Mandeleshwar dam across the Narmada. Last month, the company won Rs 112-crore order from Essar for the supply of an induration machine. But Metso is better known across the world as a manufacturer and supplier of paper and pulp making machines. The group’s power generation equipment business is a part of the paper business. Metso Power specialises in the manufacture of specialised boilers such as chemical recovery boilers, bubbling fluidised bed boilers and circulating fluidised bed boilers. Metso Power is the entity that owns 51 per cent in Metso Power India Private Ltd. EPT Engineering Services is one of Metso Power’s larger global sub-contractors. EPT was set up three years ago by Mr N Chandrasekaran, a power equipment technologist, who began his career with BHEL. “EPT is a multi-disciplinary engineering, procurement, construction-expediting and project management company.
