Tirupur, June 7

Project Vikas, an initiative by Microsoft and National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council (NMCC) in partnership with the Tirupur Exporter’s Association (TEA), was rolled out here on Friday.

The initiative, which has been ongoing for 18 months, aims to enable the units in the cluster enhance their manufacturing competitiveness in the domestic and global market by creating opportunities in market access, establishing knowledge networks and enabling supply chain linkage in the cluster ecosystem.

Coinciding with the roll out was the launch of the E-Readiness Centre (ERC) and the TEA portal.

While the ERC would provide technical training and consulting services, business incubation services and knowledge sharing platforms to the SMEs, the TEA portal, which is linked to the national portal of NMCC, would enable the units in the cluster reach out globally.

The General Manager of Microsoft India, Mr Rajeev Mittal, said the initiative aims to close the digital divide by creating new products and programmes, and reach out to those who were not realising the benefits of technology. “We have initiated pilot projects of similar nature in other manufacturing clusters such as auto and leather,” he said.

The TEA President, Mr A. Sakthivel, said with the implementation of Project Vikas, there have been significant changes in management, technology and access to statistical information.

“These facilitate faster and prompt decisions,” he said, and added that the ERC and TEA portal helped enhance the internal and external efficiencies of the exporters in Tirupur.
