Railways Iron ore rake movement suspended
The movement of iron ore rakes remains suspended on the 450-km long Kirandul-Kottavalasa line since Thursday, following suspension of power supply to the rail network, as the Maoists have blown up transmission towers in Chhattisgarh . However, the Railway authorities are concerned about the uncertainty on restoration of power supply and resumption of the train movement in the absence of alternative routes. The Chhattisgarh Government, it is learnt, has ruled out any assessment of the damage before June 12, as the Maoists will observe Martyrs’ Week till June 11. Though some aerial survey is believed to have been undertaken, it is still not enough. In the absence of electricity, even the manual loading of rakes is not possible, because of the limited facilities for such loading. Also, the volume available is negligible. There was an attempt to undertake loading through pay-loaders but that too was not successful. The diesel required for the operation of pay-loaders is not available as the State Government — in the absence of electricity in the affected areas — has mopped up whatever diesel available with the petrol pumps to operate diesel-generating sets for running essential services.OUR BUREAU More Stories on : Railways | Minerals
