Call to reduce emissions

The meeting of Ministers and representatives in Leipzig in end May has stepped up the pace of a growing international accord to reduce transport’s energy intensity and emissions, according to Shippers’ Voice. In what was described as the world’s largest transport summit, the three-day International Transport Forum in Leipzig, concluded that there had to be the development of a low-carbon transport system “as soon as possible”.

The governments, it was felt, should look at technology development, strengthen research into new technology and fuels, ensure increased use of information technology and integrated mobility as well as a wide variety of non-technology policy tools with potential to improve economic efficiency and reduce emissions.
