New Projects
Pratim Ranjan Bose Kolkata, June 9 Indraprastha Gas’s planned foray into city gas distribution in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, continues to be dogged by problems. The project, according to the company, has been stalled for the last three months due to oral instructions from State agencies. The company is a joint venture between Gas Authority of India Ltd and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd and it has spent Rs 40 crore on laying pipeline and procuring equipment. This, however, is not the first time that the project has been stalled. Having decided to put up CNG (compressed natural gas) stations at Noida about two years back, the then State Government allowed Adani Energy to implement the city gas distribution network in Noida. This changed once there was a change in the party in power and the new government stopped the Adani Energy project. In January AEL was allowed to resume its project. According to IGL sources, first came a notice from the State authority for stopping the work and then it was replaced by a “verbal instruction” by the Noida authorities. The development reportedly took place at a time when the IGL was a month or two away from commissioning its first CNG station at Noida. “The CGD project at Noida is stalled since mid-January owing to verbal instructions by the authorities,” Mr Om Narayan, Managing Director, told Business Line. The company has been allocated APM gas for supplies at Noida. “The work was stopped at a time when we were a month away from commissioning the first CNG station and two months away from beginning the supply of piped natural gas,” the official said, adding that pipeline network of 90 km had been laid and the pipe and equipment for the residual part were procured.
