Oilseeds & Edible Oil Industry & Economy - Exports & Imports Soyameal exports up 151.8% in May Our Bureau New Delhi, June 8 Soyabean meal exports from the country have registered a 151.8 per cent growth during May. Total shipments during the month amounted to 306,615 tonnes as against 121,771 tonnes in May 2007. Exports for the April-May 2008 period stood at 856,795 tonnes, 142.4 per cent higher than the 353,464 tonnes of the corresponding two months of 2007-08. On an oil year basis (October-September), too, soyameal shipments aggregated 40,80,714 tonnes till May — a 30.97 per cent jump over the 31,15,732 tonnes level of October 2006 to May 2007. Japan, VietnamDuring the current oil year, the two markets to have recorded a substantial increase in exports were Vietnam (10,46,106 tonnes versus 730,872 tonnes or 41.13 per cent) and Japan (698,940 tonnes versus 408,251 tonnes or 71.20 per cent), according to data released by the Indore-based Soybean Processors’ Association of India (SOPA).
