TI unveils new microcontrollers

Bangalore, June 9

Texas Instruments India on Monday announced a breakthrough generation of ultra-low power microcontrollers, MSP430F5xx, which can aid several applications in fields such as medical, security, consumer goods and home. The microcontrollers will offer 50 per cent more processing performance and 100 per cent improvement in memory compared with previous generations. This will help electronic equipment manufacturers to offer products that consume very little power, thereby increa sing battery life and offer lower operational cost, according to Mr Shailesh Thakurdesai, Business Development Manager. He said the analog semiconductor market is estimated to be $437 million by 2009. Texas Instruments India, with over 40,000 products, has the largest product portfolio to tap the growing market. The new generation of microcontrollers will particularly help in development of portable devices across industry segments. They will significantly enhance the performance of devices such as panel meters, 3-phase meters, UPS and inverters, LED lighting, portable ultrasound scanners, electronic thermometers, wind and solar power generators, surveillance equipment in public buildings, electronic baggage scanners and radio frequency identification devices (RFID).
