Metro Cash & Carry staff stage dharna

K. V. Kurmanath

Hyderabad, June 11 Over 100 employees of the Metro Cash and Carry facility have begun an agitation, protesting against sacking of two senior managers last month.

Staging a dharna outside the facility near Kukatpally here, the employees demanded that the management come out with reasons for the termination of the two managers. The facility has an employee strength of 280.

“We have asked the management to implement an eight-hour working day,” Mr Ch Prabhakar, representing the Union for Commerce Employees (UNICOME - Metro Branch), said. “We have received stocks worth Rs 400 crore since the inception of the shop in 2006. But they cited a trivial reason for the sacking of the officials. If it could happen to senior executives, it could happen to any one of us,” Mr V. Reddy, a Union leader, told Business Line. Meanwhile, local Metro executives were not accessible to elicit a comment on the allegations made by the striking employees.
