IT Training Genpact, NIIT join hands to offer BPO training programs

Pawar, Chairman, NIIT, at a press conference in the Capital on Wednesday. — Our Bureau New Delhi, June 11 NYSE-listed BPO major Genpact, and talent development company NIIT, on Wednesday announced a joint venture to provide training programs in business process services. While NIIT would hold 75 per cent stake in the joint venture — named NIIT Institute of Process Excellence Ltd — Genpact would hold the balance equity. The initial investment in the venture is expected to be about Rs 25 crore. The new company would initially offer training programs in areas such as business processes, language skills and business communication, and offerings that are expected to get added include finance and accounting, banking, insurance and supply chain. Employment tab“According to estimates, the BPO industry provided direct employment to 7.04 lakh professionals in FY08 and is projected to generate an additional 1.4 million jobs by 2010. This venture would look at cornering 15-20 per cent of this market and making them industry-ready,” the NIIT CEO, Mr Vijay K. Thadani, said at a conference. The venture would offer courses of 4 month duration (three months of classroom training and one month of internship in an ITeS company), and the fee is pegged at Rs 20,000-25,000. Training facilities in Indian cities — Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai and Pune — would be set up in the first year of operations followed by centres in Dalian, Changchun, Shanghai and Xian in China, and Manila in the Philippines, in the next phase. The two companies expect the new venture to have over 250 learning centres by 2010. “This is a significant milestone that would benefit not only Genpact but the entire business and technology services industry,” Mr Pramod Bhasin, Vice-Chairman of Nasscom and President and CEO of Genpact, said. Genpact would provide industry-specific knowledge as well as internship and job opportunities to students. NIIT would complement this with expertise in learning content development, training delivery and its capabilities in education process management.
