IOB chief monitors waiver scheme

Chennai, June 11

As many as 253 small and marginal farmers received relief as the Indian Overseas Bank waived agricultural loans worth Rs 34.78 lakh due from them under the Union Government's loan waiver scheme. The bank's Chairman and Managing Director, Mr S. A. Bhat, distributed "waiver certificates" and sanction letters for fresh loans to the farmers at the Manampathy village, about 75 km from Chennai, on Saturday. Mr Bhat also visited the Mahabalipuram branch and issued waiver certificates to another 253 farmers, waiving loans worth Rs 37.98 lakh, according to a press release from IOB. - Our Bureau
