AP: No power cuts in the coming days, says CM

Hyderabad, June 12 The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, has said that there will be no power cuts in the coming days and has asked APTransco to purchase required power from outside the State to meet the demand.

Reviewing the power situation, the Chief Minister said there should be no power cuts for any kind of consumers, including agriculture, domestic and industries among others. “If we could manage the most demanding days of severe summer, there is absolutely no doubt that we can also meet the demand in coming months without power cuts,” he said.

Maintenance

The Government has decided to stop power generation from Srisailam hydro-electric station to facilitate the Irrigation Department undertake repairs to the dam and its crest-gates ahead of the flood season.

This is expected to lead to a daily shortage of 10 million units of power, and the Chief Minister has ordered APTransco to meet this shortfall by purchasing power from the Power Trading Corporation and other sources outside the State.

The Chief Minister has also ordered Singareni Collieries to supply at least 10 rakes of coal every day to APGenco for four days from now to supplement the stocks at its 21 thermal plants in the State.

According to Energy Minister Mr Mohd Ali Shabbir, APTransco purchased power worth Rs.1,000 crore from external sources since March and averted power cuts.
