Retailing Khadi outlets set for revamp
Divya Trivedi Ahmedabad, June 12 The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is looking for a capital investment of Rs 3,500 crore for expansion and marketing of its retail stores, Ms Kumudben Joshi, Chairperson, told Business Line at the sidelines of a Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry felicitation programme. The organisation has lined up Rs 700 crore for the same and are looking to raise it to Rs 3,500 crore during the Eleventh Plan period, she said. It has tied up with the Asian Development Bank for the purpose. The stores, which primarily sell khadi cloth materials, will launch jeans cloth materials this year, to be followed by ready-to-wear jeans, affordably priced at around Rs 500. The traditional khadi cloth will now have new designs, catering to the taste of the new generation. Plans are afoot to change the in-store décor and facilities with modern fittings and staff training. The organisation has consciously changed the labelling of the products and constituents of products for better marketing and stand the scrutiny of the market, said Mr S. Vijaykumar, Deputy Director, Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Ministry of Agro and Rural Industries, Government of India. More Stories on : Retailing | Restructuring
