Plug-in hybrid car project launched

Bangalore, June 12 The Bangalore-based RV Engineering College has developed a plug-in hybrid car project called “Chimera” in association with Reva, the electric car company.

According to the project team, it involved integration of an internal combustion engine for bio-diesel in an electric car. The 11-member student team were from final year B.E from different streams.The team designed the hybrid system with assistance from REVA Electric Car Company, Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions Ltd and National Instruments.

The aim was to develop a hybrid electric vehicle prototype which could be run on Indian roads by using conventional fuel as less as possible. The team used Lombardini LD 15 440 engine because of its compact size and high output.
