Firm trend at Kochi tea auction

Tea prices gained considerable momentum at the Kochi tea auction, led by strong demand and price for leaf tea. Bolder CTC dust varieties witnessed a good demand from exporters while other dust varieties were absorbed by major blenders and the domestic market. While inter-State buyers remained selective on CTC leaf varieties, orthodox leaf found good demand from exporters.

There was 11,41,000 kg of dust tea on offer and good liquoring and finer grades of CTC were dearer by Rs 2-3. Prices of bolder CTC grades moved up by Rs 2-5. Orthodox high grown were barely steady while medium orthodox were dearer by Rs 2-4. Best CTC varieties fetched Rs 64-72, medium CTC quoted Rs 57-60 and below medium was at Rs 52-55. High grown BOPD realized Rs 85-90, medium BOPD was at Rs 53-57 and secondaries fetched Rs 46-50.

Leaf Sale

There was 2.99 lakh kg of leaf tea on auction where prices spurted up sharply. High grown orthodox grades were up by Rs 4-8 while medium orthodox moved up sharply by Rs 10-15. Best CTC were dearer by Rs 2-4, plainer varieties witnessed less demand. Best Nilgiri varieties quoted Rs 80-100, medium orthodox ranged at Rs 70-90 and plain orthodox fetched Rs 65-75. Best CTC leaf was at Rs 67-76 and medium CTC leaf quoted Rs 54-62.

Top Prices

In the dust segment, Kodanad BOPD fetched the top price at Rs 90, followed by Pasuparai SFD at Rs 87, Parkside BOPD at Rs 85 and Pasuparai RD at Rs 78. In the leaf category Chamraj FOP fetched the top price at Rs 130, followed by Chamraj OP at Rs 120, Havukal FOP at Rs 120 and Glendale FP at Rs 110.
