Wheels production for EMUs

Bangalore, June 16

Rail Wheel Factory (RWF) here is in the process of adding wheels production for the EMU (electrical multiple units) trains on suburban services in the country to its product portfolio. The demand of EMU segment is currently met out of imports and from the Durgapur Steel Plant. Mr K.C.Jena, Chairman, Railway Board, urged RWF employees to prepare themselves to meet the challenge to meet the growing demand for EMU wheels. Mr Jena, who visited the RWF recently, said that the factory is in the process of scaling up its wheels for the regular rail coaches to two lakh from 1.45 lakh now. He also commissioned the "CNC Axle Turning Centre" for the production. - Our Bureau
