Lint prices rule steady

Our Bureau

Coimbatore, June 16 Cotton lint prices for the fortnight ended June 15 ruled steady to firm even as the arrivals and sale of cotton in most terminal markets were low.

The seed cotton arrivals during the fortnight have come down to as low as 4,000 bales a day, according to the latest market report from the South India Cotton Association (SICA).

arrivals

The SICA report has put the total cotton arrivals so far this season (as on June 7) to 308.40 lakh bales compared with 267.40 lakh bales for the same period in 2006-07 season.

The firming cotton prices continues to cause concern for the textile mills which are unable to absorb the price increase due to lack of parity in yarn prices realised from the market, the report said, adding that the hike in fuel prices will have an adverse bearing on the cost of sales of textile goods.
