Dry lands development scheme

Madurai, June 17

The Department of Agriculture will be developing massive dry lands in Dindigul district under the National Agriculture Development Programme. According to Mr R. Shanmuga Sundaram, Joint Director of Agriculture (in-charge), to begin with, bio-mass clusters are to be developed in four unions, each on 50 acres, at an estimated cost of Rs 58.40 lakh.

The Agriculture and Horticulture departments would be introducing precision farming in 500 acres each. The beneficiaries would be trained in Dharmapuri district. The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University would offer trainers to guide the farmers.

Preliminary works have started for creation of land resources inventory and GIS-based data for every farm village.
