Mollusc collectors in Alappuzha region in Kerala are on a collision course with paddy farmers over the opening of the Thanneermukkom barrage shutters that keep seawater from paddy fields. While farmers are opposing the opening of the shutters, mollusc collectors say closed shutters are depriving them of their livelihood.
