Hyderabad, June 17 The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, announced that the UPA Chairperson, Ms Sonia Gandhi, would formally launch Aarogyasri-I in five more districts and Aarogyasri-II in the 18 districts so far covered by Aarogyasri-I.

A release from the Chief Minister’s Office said that the schemes would be launched at a health camp in Prakasam district on July 17.

“Aarogyasri-II will provide for cashless treatment of all diseases that are not covered under the ongoing scheme and for which treatment is not available in Government hospitals,” it added.

The Chief Minister said that the programme became so popular that the other States were coming forward to replicate it. According to Dr Reddy, by October 2, the entire State should be covered by total inclusive medical aid to all the people – white card holders, which is around 1.88 crore families.

The Aarogyasri-II programme is expected to cover 681 surgical packages.
