Cars Bharat Stage III norms in 2 years Our Bureau New Delhi, June 18 All four-wheelers in the country may have to adhere to cleaner emission norms by 2010. The Government has said that it wants to implement Bharat Stage-III for cars across the country from April 2010, while rules in 11 major cities will be even tougher (Bharat Stage-IV), Mr T.R. Baalu, Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, said in a consultative committee meeting here. Bharat Stage-IV norms, the Indian version of Euro-IV norms, would be extended to 11 major cities from April 2010, said an official release. “The Department of Road Transport and Highways is in the process of notifying the rules very soon,” Mr Baalu stated. Mr Baalu said that the Government would take all possible steps expeditiously to improve road safety scenario in the country. He also said the Ministry is in the process of designing suitable model of inspection and maintenance centres to be set up by the State Governments for rigorous inspection of motor vehicles. Central Government will provide financial assistance to the States for setting up of inspection and maintenance centres through capital grant. More Stories on : Cars | Environment
