Kingfisher may fly overseas soon

Our Bureaus

Bangalore/New Delhi, June 18

With the Karnataka High Court approving the Kingfisher Airlines – Deccan Aviation merger on Monday, Kingfisher Airlines’ plans to fly overseas may become a reality soon.

“The judge has pronounced his order orally sanctioning the scheme in the court on Monday,” spokesperson for the UB Group which owns both the airlines said.

Earlier this year, Kingfisher Airline officials had indicated that the airline planned to operate a daily flight on the Bangalore-San Francisco route from August end this year days after Air Deccan, which it acquired recently, completes five years of domestic operations.

Currently, the Government rules stipulate that an airline should have a fleet of at least 20 aircraft and have completed five years of domestic operations before it is permitted to fly international routes.

Kingfisher is also planning to operate to destinations in Europe including London.

Air Deccan, now renamed Simplifly Deccan, has already written to the Government for permission to operate 70 weekly flights to Dubai, including twice-a-day flight from Mumbai.
