Railway employees union demand negotiated settlement

Sixth Central Pay panel recommendations

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, June 18 The General Body of the South Central Railway Employees’ Sangh (SCRES) has demanded a negotiated settlement of the retrograde recommendations by the VI Central Pay Commission (CPC).

“The railwaymen are disappointed over the recommendations of the CPC as it has ignored the uniqueness of the Indian Railways, the complex and uncommon nature of duties being performed by the different categories,” Mr M. Raghavaiah, General Secretary, SCRES and the National Federation of Indian Railwaymen (NFIR), said while addressing a press conference here on Wednesday.

According to him, the running pay bands and grade pays recommended by the Commission were not commensurate with the duties and responsibilities shouldered by the workforce.

The SCRES held its two-day 25th biennial general body meeting here. As per the resolutions adopted in the meeting, the grade pay fixed by the 15th ILC norms were twisted and facts ignored by the Commission.

Mr Raghavaiah also said that there was a need to remove ceiling in productivity-linked bonus, reduction of rate of increment, pay fixation on promotions and against privatisation, out-sourcing and down-sizing in Indian Railways.

“We are also demanding removing of various clauses for granting compassionate appointment to wards of medically decategorised employees and for absorption of quasi-administrative unit staff against vacancies. We have put the issue in front of the Railway Board and hope for a meeting in August,” he said.

“The workforce across all cadres is also unhappy with the non-withdrawal of the contributory pension scheme and denial of upward revision of incentive bonus rates to the workshop employees in spite of the DA merger,” Mr Raghavaiah said.
