Different catch: Sand being collected in country boats from the Kulsi River near Guwahati. With the booming construction industry in the city, sand mining is increasing day by day in this river. The Kulsi River has long been the home of river dolphins (Platanista gangetica) locally known as Xihu. Due to large scale silt deposition and subsequent sand-mining in the Kulsi River, their habitat has been damaged leading to a decrease in numbers.
