Education ICAI to set up centre in Kolkata Our Bureau Kolkata, June 21 The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has decided to set up a Centre of Excellence here aimed at , achieving excellence in accounting and financial profession, said Mr Ved Jain, President of the institute, here on Saturday. ICAI would be submitting the formal proposal for 15-20 acres of land to the State Government soon, he said. Land has already been acquired in Bangalore and Jaipur for setting up similar centres expected to be ready in an year. Each campus would cost around Rs 10 crore, he said. “Initially, the centres will hold three-month residential courses on professional and soft skill development”, he said, suggesting that there were plans for other activities for the promotion of the accounting profession. About 12,000 chartered accountants pass out every year and the figure will double by 2011. The proposed courses should help them develop the basic soft skills required in the job, he added.
