Tea Coonoor tea auctions fetch Rs 43 cr more P.S. Sundar Coonoor, June 23 Producers who sold their teas through the auctions of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) in the first five months of this calendar earned Rs 42.72 crore more than the corresponding period of last year. An analysis of the Market Reports of the 22 auctions held during January-May shows that this happened because of the higher price earned for the higher volume sold. In the five months, totally 18.9 million kg were sold against 12.5 million kg last year. Buyers picked up the higher offer paying a higher price averaging Rs 54.68 a kg against Rs 48.50. Consequently, the overall earnings rose to Rs 103.35 crore from Rs 60.63 crore, an increase of Rs 42.72 crore or 70 per cent. The higher earnings were facilitated by the CTC teas. On an average, producers got Rs 7 a kg more to rule Rs 54.35. Still, traders bought 6.3 million kg more to total 17.6 million kg. Orthodox teasProducers who sold their orthodox teas got a lower price average – Rs 59.02 a kg against Rs 60.17 last year. They could sell more volume only by dropping the price.
