Our Bureau

Ahmedabad, June 22 The second World Gujarati Conference will be organised in August at New Jersey, USA, in which the Chief Minister, Mr Narendra Modi, the Ambani Brothers, Mr Gautam Adani and Mr Tulsi Tanti, among other leading Gujarati businessmen and others from different walks of life are likely to participate.

Among the other leading lights of Gujarat or of Gujarati-origin invited are Mr Sam Pitroda, Mr Karsanbhai Patel (Nirma), Mr Sudhir Mehta (Torrent Group), Mr Pankaj Patel (Zydus Cadila), Dr Bakul Dholakia (former Director, IIM-A), Mr Deepak Parekh (HDFC), Mr Uday Kotak (Kotak Group), Mr Jagdish Bhagwati (economist), Mr Pankaj Udhas, Mr Paresh Rawal, Mr Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ms Falguni Pathak, Ms AlkaYagnik (the four are film and entertainment personalities) and Irfan Patel (cricket).

Chalo Gujarat

About 50,000 people are likely to participate in the three-day event. Giving this information at a press conference here, Mr Sunil Nayak, President of the conference and the Association of Indian Americans in North America, said the biennial event, to be held from August 29 to 31, was themed with ‘Chalo Gujarat’ — in which a live mini-Gujarat will be set up.

The attempt to bring all the Gujaratis from across the world on one platform is aimed at reinforcing in them the cultural heritage they belong to, particularly amongst the younger generation.

Mr Nayak, himself a leader in the US-based hospitality industry, said even the chefs and other ambience will be flown to New Jersey from Ahmedabad and other places in Gujarat to give an authentic touch to the event that would focus on business, education, culture and family values. A trade show-cum-exhibition is also being organised to provide opportunity to companies to showcase their products, plans, and possible alliances for business.

On this occasion, Gujarat Institute of Housing and Estate Developers, Ahmedabad, would put up an international property show to showcase the opportunities in the areas of real estate and infrastructure development in Gujarat, and present to NRI investors, based in North American countries, an opportunity to make their investments in Gujarat.
