Railways NF Rlys freight traffic up 28% in April-May Our Bureau Kolkata, June 24 In the first two months of the current fiscal (April and May), the North Frontier Railway (NFR), having network in the north-east region, handled a total originating freight traffic of 2.27 million tonnes (mt) compared with 1.77 mt in the corresponding period of last fiscal, thus, posting nearly 28 per cent growth in throughput, according to a NFR press release. The target of 2.2 mt, set by the Railway Board for the period, was thus surpassed, marginally though. The freight earning during the period amounted to Rs 268.93 crore (Rs 217.77 crore). During the period under review, NFR carried more passengers than those in the corresponding period of last year – 96.26 lakh (90.64 lakh). The earnings from the passenger traffic amounted to Rs 103.19 crore (Rs 94.38 crore). The earnings under other heads included other coaching Rs 14.26 crore (Rs 12.61 crore) and sundry earnings Rs 3.52 crore (Rs 4.93 crore). Total earning, thus, amounted to Rs 389.90 crore (Rs 329.69 crore), the press release added. More Stories on : Railways
