Taking the lead

It was interesting to read the report that the Beijing city government has ordered half its cars off the road ahead of the Olympics to clean up the air and save energy (Business Line, June 24).

This must serve as food-for-thought for democratic governments which expect people to do their duties but, sadly, they (governments) do not reciprocate by enhancing the welfare of the people. The Chinese Government must be congratulated for taking this step.
