P.S. Sundar

Coonoor, June 25 Volume offered for the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) auctions continue to be high with an offer of 13.82 lakh kg for Sale No: 26 to be held on Thursdayand Friday. This is the highest volume for a single auction in more than two years.

It is some 56,000 kg more than the offer of last week. It is as much as 1.39 lakh kg more than the offer this time last year.

Fresh arrivals account for as much as 13.11 lakh kg out of the offer of 13.82 lakh kg. The balance comprises teas remaining unsold in previous auctions.

Arrivals are more because of favourable rains kindling growth in tea bushes. Auctioneers expect fresh arrivals to remain high for a few more weeks.

Leaf & dust

Of the 13.82 lakh kg on offer, as much as 9.74 lakh kg belong to the leaf grades and 4.08 lakh kg belong to the dust grades. Again, as much as 12.93 lakh kg belong to CTC variety and only 0.89 lakh kg to orthodox variety.

Despite the volume remaining high, prices have been posting an increase of Rs 2 a kg week after week over a month now because of impressive export and domestic demand.
