A variety of mangoes are on display at an exhibition and conference jointly organised by the Department of Food Processing Industries and Horticulture, Government of West Bengal, and the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Kolkata on Thursday. Mango, the most important fruit of India, is grown in an area of 1.23 million hectares with an annual production of 10.99 million tonnes, which accounts for 57.18 per cent of the total world production. India has the richest collection of mango cultivars. Major mango growing States are Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. —
