Chennai, June 26 Eaton Power Quality Private Ltd (EPQPL), the electrical division of $13 billion US-based corporation, is gearing up to focus aggressively on buss duct — a replacement for power cables which helps high-rise buildings to save on cost of ownership.

Speaking to Business Line on the sidelines of an Eaton India’s roundtable, the Managing Director SAARC/South East Asia, EPQPL, Mr Deepak Sharma, said the company would initially import from its plant in Malaysia to cater to the domestic demand. The threshold level for setting up a plant to manufacture buss duct is $10 million, which translates in to an order from about 30 multi-storied buildings, he said.

Some US companies insist on installation of buss ducts if they import goods, because of its higher safety levels ensuring uninterrupted supply. Buss duct offers convenience in distributing power in high-rise buildings and large establishments such as airports, without compromising on safety. Also, it is easy to install and maintenance is minimal, he said. However, the initial cost will be about 15 per cent higher than the conventional cabling method, he said.
