Dell to focus on verticals for growth

Our Bureau

Bangalore, June 26 Dell sees government business, BFSI (banking, financial services and insurance) and education as its growth engines in the country. It also sees huge potential and opportunities in the SMB and consumer markets.

Mr Sameer Garde, Country General Manager, Dell India, said, “Since March last year, we have had a 9 per cent market share in government business. In the BFSI space, we are looking to offer simplified solutions as a lot of solutions today involve complex IT infrastructure. We also see enough traction in the education space, with computerisation and IT infrastructure needed to take India forward. There is also government focus on education with ICT (information and communication technologies) initiatives taking off.”

SMB segment

The $61-billion company is also betting big on SMB and consumer segments. “These are also key focus areas of opportunity for Dell and are already paying huge dividends,” said Mr Garde.

The Dell 500 laptop (touted as the laptop for India with rich connectivity and onsite warranty), gaming products in the consumer market, SMB laptops and the ‘ProSupport’ solution for simplifying IT are some of Dell’s recent launches in the Indian market. “Watch out for more new products in future,” said Mr Garde. Dell’s India first quarter revenue (Feb-April) is $800 million on a run-rate basis, he added.

To explore various channels of raising awareness, Dell tied up with Tata Croma to set up a shop-in-shop at the Croma outlet in Malad, Mumbai.
