Firm trends continue at Kochi tea auction

Kochi June 27 Firm trends persisted at the Kochi Tea Auction with prices of both leaf and dust grades moving up. Finer CTC dust grades witnessed better demand from blenders and the domestic market. There was good demand for orthodox leaf from exporters as well as for smaller CTC leaf tea. Exporters were fairly active in the dust segment.

There was 9,24,000 kg of dust tea on offer at the auction which elicited good general demand and prices of CTC finer grades were up by Rs 2-4. High grown bolder CTC dust was steady to deare,r while medium bolder CTC were up by Rs 2-3. Orthodox high grown dust was steady while medium orthodox dust remained firm. Best CTC dust fetched Rs 70-80, medium CTC quoted Rs 63-68, below medium was at Rs 58-62. High grown BOPD fetched Rs 90-95, medium BOPD was at Rs 54-59 and secondaries quoted Rs 50-52.

Leaf Sale

There was 3,69,000 kg of leaf on offer and high grown broken and whole leaf grades were firm to dearer by Rs 2-3. Fannings and medium broken remained steady to dearer. Whole leaf grades quoted higher. CTC varieties had good demand and smaller broken and fannings were firm to dearer by Rs 1-2. High priced bolder CTC eased by Rs 1-2.

Best Nilgiri varieties fetched Rs 85-100, medium orthodox quoted Rs 70-92 and plain orthodox was at Rs 65-72. Best CTC leaf was at Rs 63-72 and medium CTC leaf ranged at Rs 53-62.

In the dust segment, Pausparai SFD quoted the top price at Rs 97, followed by Kodanad BOPD at Rs 95, Parkside BOPDS at Rs 90 and Pasuparai GD at Rs 85. In the leaf category, Chamraj FOP and Havukal FOP quoted the top price at Rs 122 followed by Chamraj FP, Kairbetta TGFOP and Craigmore TGFOP at Rs 120.
