Oncology biz drives Natco’s net up 33%

Hyderabad, June 30 Natco Pharma Ltd’s net profit increased 33 per cent at Rs 40.5 crore during the year ended March 31, 2008 compared with Rs 30 crore the previous year.

The consolidated revenue grew by 30 per cent to Rs 364 crore (Rs 280 crore) in the same period according to audited results, said a release.

The increase in revenue and profit were driven by about a 40-per cent jump in domestic oncology business supported by 12 per cent growth in active pharmaceutical ingredients business, the release said.

The company’s retail business in the US yielded Rs 107 crore turnover with the acquisition of a third retail pharma store in the US during the year. In the current fiscal, Natco was expecting Rs 150 crore of revenue and the company was eying more acquisitions in retail business, it added.

The Hyderabad-based company recently tied up with Mylan Inc for the world wide supply of the generic version of Copaxone (Glatirmer Acetate).
