Kerala banks ready with debt waiver lists

Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram, June 30 All scheduled commercial banks, regional rural banks and cooperative credit institutions in the State have come out with the list of eligible beneficiaries under the Agricultural Debt Waiver and Debt Relief Scheme (ADWDRS)-2008.

The lists are available for verification at the respective branches of the bank/lending institution, a spokesman for the State-Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC), which monitors the progress of implementation of the scheme, said here on Monday.

Two different types of lists are available at each branch dealing respectively with (i) names of eligible farmers cultivating five acres or less of land whose overdue loan amounts would be waived, and (ii) names of eligible farmers cultivating more than five acres of land who stand to get 25 per cent relief from the eligible overdue amount calculated as per the ADWDR norms.

Farmers who have availed themselves of credit facilities from lending institutions in the State have been requested to visit their respective bank branches and verify the list of beneficiaries displayed at the branch premises.

Every lending institution has already appointed one or more Grievance Redressal Officers for the State and the names and addresses of each have also been displayed at every branch of the lending bank/institution.

According to decisions arrived at during a meeting of the special steering committee of the SLBC, aggrieved farmers may make a representation through the branch from which he received the loan or directly to the Grievance Redressal Officer of the lending institution on or before July 31.

The representation will be disposed of within 30 days of receipt thereof and the orders of the Grievance Redressal Officer will be final. The sub-committee of the SLBC steering committee meets on Tuesdays to review the progress of the ADWDR implementation.

The sub-committee comprises General Managers from the Reserve Bank and the Nabard, State Nodal Officers of the State Bank of Travancore, Indian Overseas Bank, Indian Bank, Union Bank of India and the Syndicate Bank, apart from the General Manager of Canara Bank, who is the Convenor of the SLBC, Kerala.
