Maytas Infra eyeing industrial structures segment

K.V. Kurmanath

Hyderabad, July 1 With the private sector offering huge opportunities, Maytas Infra has decided to give more focus on industrial structures activity.

“The market has begun looking up for players other than the traditional ones. It is looking for infrastructure companies with strong financials and ability to complete the projects on time,” Mr Sudheer Mareddi, Head (Buildings and Structures) of Maytas Infra, told Business Line.

Buildings and structures is one of the major verticals that include energy, water and airports.

“Earlier, the industry used to get big orders from the Governments, be it housing or other projects. But the private sector is coming out with huge projects in the last two years. The opportunity in this sector is vast,” he said.

The company registered a turnover (consolidated) of Rs 1,637 crore in the financial year ended March 31, 2008, as against Rs 601 crore last year. The buildings and structures arm contributed nearly a quarter of it.

It got the mandate for construction of structures for three of the 30 compression points Reliance is building for the Kakinada-Jamnagar gas pipeline.

In Hyderabad, it was taking up Hill County, a residential project, which would comprise 330 bungalows and 1,000 apartments in 11 towers, each having 14 floors.

“For the Navy, our vertical is building part of its integrated facilities for all its academies at Ezhimala in Kerala.”

The biggest challenge, however, is human resources, particularly at the middle level.
