Tea Demand keeps tea prices a tad dearer at Coimbatore Our Bureau Coimbatore, July 2 The total offering of tea at the weekly auction held here on Friday was marginally up at 6.78 lakh kg with leaf grades accounting for 2.50 lakh kg and dust comprising 4.28 lakh kg. There was good demand for the Orthodox leaf. The Nilgiris Highgrowns and mediums quoted dearer by up to Rs 3. CIS exporters and buyers for the West Asian market were active. Internal demand was limited. The orthodox dust witnessed better export demand. The offer volumes were low, but the primary grades remained dearer by Re 1 to Rs 2. HUL absentOn the CTC leaf category, the clean, black smaller brokens and fannings remained firm. The others were barely steady with some withdrawals. Hindustan Unilever Limited was absent, exporters lent support and internal buyers remained selective. There was good demand for the CTC dust grades. Popular, good liquoring high priced teas quoted firm to dearer by Re 1 to Rs 2. The medium plainer sorts with better leaf followed the same trend. More Stories on : Tea
