AP handicrafts corpn sales may rise 15%

Hyderabad, July 4 The Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd expects 15.38 per cent rise in sales turnover for fiscal 2008-09 reaching Rs 60 crore from Rs 52 crore the previous year.

“During the year, the corporation has already opened new sales outlets in Kadapa and Tirupati (Srinivasam). Another outlet will be opened at the international airport in Shamshabad,” the corporation said in a release.

It has also taken up construction of new buildings at Guntur and Hyderabad for opening new showrooms.

Renovation work on

The release added that it has also taken up renovation work at the existing showrooms at Rajahmundry, Anantapur, Kurnool, Kolkata, New Delhi and in Hyderabad.

The corporation markets the production of about two lakh artisans through its network of 16 sales emporia called Lepakshi.

Exports to Japan, China

During the year, the corporation is planning to export red sander wood articles to Japan and China, and expects a sales turnover of Rs 5 crore.

It also plans to organise around 80 exhibitions and craft bazaars with an anticipated sales of Rs 17.5 crore during the year.

“The corporation would organise four design and technical workshops in the Old City of Hyderabad for Zari and Zaradosi work for the minority community artisans, which have been formed as self-help groups.

“One workshop in toy making will be organised for toy making artisans from BC community at Etikoppaka in Visakhapatnam district,” the release said. Workshops will also be organised for Banjara tribal artisans at Garla in Khammam District and for sheet metal work artisans at MV Palem in Khammam district this year.
