Our Bureau

Hyderabad, July 4 The Andhra Pradesh Government has announced a penal interest rebate waiver for those who have defaulted in payment of instalments to the Andhra Pradesh Housing Board (APHB).

The APHB has from its inception constructed around 90,000 houses and flats in the higher income group (HIG), middle income group (MIG), lower income group (LIG) and economically weaker section categories. Of these, registration for 70,000 houses has been made upon receiving the amount due and for the rest, there have been defaults and that is why the Government has brought in this scheme, Mr Botcha Satyanarayana, Minister for Housing, said while addressing a press conference here on Friday.

Classification

The Government has classified the scheme under two categories. According to the Government Order, the first group falls for the houses constructed in Bhavanipuram Phase I and II, Vijayawada and Pedagantyada in Visakhapatnam and the other for houses constructed in the urban agglomeration areas of Greater Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.

“For the houses in the economically weaker section sections, the waiver being provided is 100 per cent. For LIG houses, it is between 60 per cent and 90 per cent, for MIG, the rebate is 25 per cent to 75 per cent and for HIG, it is 15 per cent to 50 per cent,” Mr Satyanarayana said.

Three slabs

He added that the Government has formed three different slabs depending on the time frame of the houses.

The Government has provided time till the end of the year to make use of this scheme. “The allottees who intend to get this rebate benefit have to apply to the concerned Executive Engineer and pay the due amount to the Board,” the Minister said.

According to estimates, around Rs 20 crore of relief is expected to be provided to the allottees under this rebate scheme.

Mr Satyanarayana also said that the State Government is ready to bear the additional burden of Rs 3,200 under the Indiramma Housing Programme and also Rs 3,000 on account of the cost escalation. This is expected to create an additional burden of Rs 1,400 crore on the State’s exchequer.
